Arnold's Story: March 18, 1949 MHN

Another family birthday (Leonard's). And Laura's choir sang on the radio.

Arnold's Story: March 17, 1949

Just an envelope without the contents, sent from Bill Nevis to his son Arnold. Someone borrowed a machine from Arnold and wrote on the back of this envelope.

Arnold's Story: March 8–12, 1949

Hazel's note was written on a Tuesday, so perhaps March 8, 1949, but the envelope is postmarked March 12, 1949, with Bill's handwriting.

Arnold's Story: March 1, 1949

Arnold's "little sister" here might be Laura rather than Dolly.

Arnold's Story: February 27, 1949

I note a mistake that Arnold makes, calling his Negro friend Hal May a 'boy' but his friend John Rowe a 'man'. The designation Negro, also, has fallen by the wayside, as has Colored (from the Fifties and Sixties) and sometimes also Black in favor of African-American.

Arnold's Story: February 24, 1949

Jantzen was a coveted name-brand for t-shirts back in 1949.

Tuesday, February 22, would have been Washington's birthday, so Leonard, Pat and Laura had the day off from work/school.

Arnold's Story: February 18, 1949

Laura's letter from the previous post was included with Hazel's letter here.

Apparently the Big T's mentioned in this and previous letters are Caltech yearbooks.

Arnold's brother Leonard is busy with his pre-med studies and Leonard's wife Pat is working to support the two of them and attending night classes.

Arnold's Story: February 4, 1949

Flash is the family dog.

I find it interesting to see that there is a national discussion about nationalized medicine.
