Arnold and Newlin: Travel to California 1968

Arnie and Newlin take the boys for another summer visit to the relatives in California. Among other things they visit Arnie's alma mater, California Institute of Technology, Solvang, and Mission Santa Inés (Santa Ynez Mission).

It appears that Eric was left with his grandparents and cousin in their new Whittier home; from the knot on his forehead perhaps we was not feeling well and could not join his parents and brothers for an outing.

Hazel took Arnie's family to visit the Santa Ynez Mission in Santa Barbara County. Bill had stopped traveling due to health issues and stayed home to rest.

Arnold thanks his family for their birthday gifts to him. With some of his birthday money, he bought Men of Mathematics, 1937, by E. T. Bell, and a biography of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, who was a 1906 Nobel prize winner as a Spanish scientist, pathologist, and histologist specializing in neuroanatomy and the central nervous system.
