Arnold and Newlin: 1956 Eddie and Allan

In January 1956 Arnie and Newlin keep up with the Infant Boys Percentile Chart to monitor that their sons are developing normally. Allan is year old and Eddie is 28 months old. There is a blurry snapshot of Arnie and Newlin, too, probably heading off to church or a wedding.

The Solar House had a small fire in December 1955 rendering it uninhabitable, so Arnie and Newlin move to a small house (or duplex) in Arlington. Eddie enjoys their new suburban life: riding a tricycle and washing the family car.

Arnold and Newlin: 1955 Nursie and Sallie visit Boston

Newlin's mother Nursie Whaley Ashmore and Aunt Sallie (Sarah Elvie Whaley Durrance) visit Boston in 1955. Arnie and Newlin take them to Plymouth, the old pilgrim settlement and final landing of the Mayflower ship in 1620.

Arnold and Newlin: 1955 Niagara Falls

Arnie and Newlin visit Niagara Falls in the summer of 1955. They had to keep an eye on Eddie, an active and bolting 20-month old.

Leonard's Story: June 11, 1955 Graduation USC

Leonard graduates from the University of Southern California on June 11, 1955. The family celebrates at the Louisiana Restaurant in Los Angeles. Included in the party are Pat's Uncle Dave and Aunt Be and Laura's best friend Virginia Rowley, as well as a couple I cannot identify, perhaps friends of Leonard and Pat's or Pat's relatives.

Leonard once told me about a couple of boatwrecks he was in. I recently encountered an article of a boat rescue reported in the April 4, 1955, edition of the Press-Courier (Oxnard, California), when Len was still a student in USC Medical School:

Press-Courier, April 4, 1955

Here are a couple of photos of Laura from around the same time:

Arnold and Newlin: 1955 Mother's Day

A mother's day card that would be considered culturally very insensitive and inappropriate 50–60 years later.
