Arnold and Newlin: Andrew graduates 1978

Andrew graduated from Buchholz High School in June 1978. Arnie and Newlin asked a neighbor, Martin Vala, to come over and take photos in the back yard:

Arnold and Newlin: 1974–1975

In the mid 1970s we buy a motor boat and take it out on area lakes for frequently family outings. All of us boys learn to waterski. Arnie enjoyed skippering the boat, but he did try to teach Eric to ski, too.

Newlin went back to work in the mid 1970s as a nurse, first in Shands Hospital, later as a school nurse for Alachua County. The school district administration was located in the old Kirby Smith elementary school (a name now dropped for its connection to a Civil War confederate soldier), where several of Newlin's older brothers went to school when the Ashmores lived in Gainesville in the early 1920s.

The Florida Museum of Natural History used to feature a small and interesting natural history museum in this building on the eponymous Museum Road, but now the museum resides in another build else where on campus. The Dickson Hall location now hosts the research and collections division.

The 1911 Federal Building, built in the Palladium Classical Revival style, had the main post office and federal courthouse until 1964, when it was leased to the Alachua County School Board, but by 1980 it was turned into the Hippodrome Theater.
