Arnold and Newlin: Lapland 1970

In June or more likely July of 1970 we drove up to Lapland to the Arctic Circle, Jukkasjärvi, Kiruna, and midnight sun before leaving Sweden for good. Among other things, we encountered huge, slow-moving mosquitos that were easy to swat but relentless nonetheless.

Arnold and Newlin: Lima, Sweden, June 1970

We were invited to Lima, Dalarna County, Sweden, to help a family friend disassemble an old log cabin for reconstructing it in his backyard in Uppsala, Sweden. It rained most of the time we were there, but we enjoyed the tiny farmhouse we stayed in. (I heard that the log cabin burned down 15–20 years later.)

Arnold and Newlin: Skansen 1970

Skansen is an open-air museum of Swedish historical culture on Djurgården island in Stockholm that we visited frequently during our stay in 1969–1970. These photos are from May and June 1970.

Arnold and Newlin: Stockholm 1970

We drove down to Stockholm numerous times during the year — it was just an hour's drive from Uppsala — to visit the museums (open-air museum Skansen, Moderna Museet, Prins Eugen's Waldemarsudde art museum, Nordiska Museet), Gamla Stan (the Old City), the royal palace, the battleship Wasa, Gröna Lund amusement park, and the NK department store.
