Arnold's Story: February 26, 1950

I appreciate that Arnold is typing this letter. His cursive handwriting is difficult to read, I find. In later decades he wrote in all caps to be completely legible, probably for his secretary to type up correspondence and scientific papers.

Arnold will do surgery work at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital as part of his third-year medical studies. And he already thinking ahead to his internship after his fourth year.

Arnold's Story: February 18, 1950

Dolly thanks Arnold for his wedding gift (silver tablespoons to match their silver set). As the bride, she had the responsibility to write the thank-you notes. Etiquette requires she write them within one to three months after the wedding, and she is about two weeks out here. Dolly and Wayne had a short honeymoon on account of the needs of his dry-cleaning business.

Arnold and Dolly's father Bill had a 60th birthday on the 16th and their mother Hazel is throwing a party tonight, the 18th, for family and friends.

Dolly and Wayne's residence at 1122-B East Garfield, Glendale, no longer exists; it was torn down for the Glendale Community College (Garfield Campus).

Arnold's Story: February 4, 1950

Dolly and Wayne married on February 4 at Wee Kirk o' the Heather in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. The reception was in her parent's home at 501 Mountain Street, Glendale. Here is a photo of Dolly's parents (Bill and Hazel Nevis) and the mother of the groom (Bertha Murphy).

Arnold's Story: January 20, 1950

I found an entry showing that Arnold wrote to famed scientist and Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling on January 20, 1950, thanking him for some constructive criticism on a paper he wrote and promising to rewrite the paper:

Hazel writes, as Dolly did before her, to let Arnold know not to renew Bill's subscription to Time Magazine as he prefers the Post (perhaps The Saturday Evening Post).
