Arnold's Story: June 29, 1948

Arnold and his friends are now in McCloud, California, working at the McCloud River Lumber Co. Three of them are planning a road trip to Glendale, where Arnold's parents will host them over the Fourth of July weekend. Arnold will return to McCloud via airplane, not with his friends.

He mentions having visited Medford, Oregon, and its House of Mystery (also called the Oregon Vortex).

Arnold's Story: November 7 & 13, 1947

Here we have an empty envelope with no contents, from Dr. Clarence Kerr of the Family's local Presbyterian church in Glendale.

A note from Elmer Hall with news of his wife Francis "Frankie" and their newborn son. I cannot make the location on the envelope — Storril?

Arnold's Story: October 24, 1944

When Elmer Hall says "second civil", I am not sure what he references; a second lieutenant is a commissioned office in the Marines, so not really a civilian. WAVES are women volunteers in the U.S. Navy (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) and BAMs are the Marine Corps equivalent (a crude acronym for Broad-Assed Marines).

Arnold's Story: September 9, 1944

Elmer E. Hall writes from McCloud, California, with news about some of Arnold's friends and acquaintances from the lumber camp, though I think Arnold was really friends with his son Elmer.

Arnold's Story: July 29, 1944

While Arnold was in college, he spent his summers working at a lumber camp. He used to keep his scratchy wool plaid lumberjack shirt in his closet into the early 1980s, and I think each of his sons wore it at some point until we got too big for his shirt. Arnold had a slim build, but none of his sons were so slight of build, so by age 14–15 we had already gotten too large to wear it. I assume that McCloud is the location of that lumber camp; perhaps it was the famed McCloud River Lumber Company he worked in.
