Arnold and Newlin: 1963

In 1963 Newlin's nephew Guy Jr. came home to find his wife and her lover in bed. He shot and killed both. During the murder trial (he was found not guilty due to a crime of passion), his five children were farmed out to relatives. The two youngest, David and Betty, lived with us for part of that year. (Allan remembers that Betty came first but would not stop crying so he assumes that Richard was sent to keep her company and provide a familiar face.)

This photo above shows the wooded lot behind our house that harbored a number of snakes and turtles for several years until a house was built.

This backyard photo shows the extension that Arnie built as his study:

These pool photos may be from the Gainesville Country Club, to which the family had a membership until it moved out to the Williston Road location. Allan, Joel and Andrew learned to swim there when it was still adjacent to the University of Florida.

Arnie bought the Galaxy 500 new from a dealer and Newlin chose its turquoise color. The second car was a used Morris Minor.

This photo shows the original colors of the house: pink with turquoise trim and cedar siding. The door was distinctive with its doorknob in the center of the door. (Later it was discovered that it was an interior door not suitable for the exterior because it was hollow.)
